Overview
Lesbians face special challenges in creating secure, happy, powerfully loving relationships.
Even in contemporary societies, most of us have few visible models for healthy and effective ways to identify great potential partners, cultivate wonderful, lasting relationships, and bring our own best selves to connections that can grow over the course of time --- as we ourselves continue to grow. As a result, many of us hold confusing and conflicting ideas about sex, dating, partnerships, love, and what it takes to create great relationships. and find ourselves in difficult relationships, wondering if love is too much trouble, or worse: feeling exploited and exhausted when we give too much and receive too little reciprocal love, security, kindness, and support.
This five-week facilitated tele-group offers new insights on how we create barriers to love, sometimes "get stuck" in difficult relationships, and can make personal shifts toward healing the past, selecting great partners, and cultivating easy, happy, securely attached relationships. Infused with an understanding of the history, culture, challenges, and rewards of living as a lesbian in the 21st Century, as well as with understandings from attachment theory, couples' counseling, neuroscience, and connecting and centering practices from various traditions, the group will offer participants opportunities to learn and practice new skills, receive support and encouragement, and lay the foundations for happy, healthy, awesome partnerships. Content will be relevant both to those currently in relationships and people who are single or dating. We explore healthy relationship foundations, myths and misconceptions about partner and mate selection, risks and opportunities of dating following a difficult relationship or a dramatic ending, and "dykes that dykes should watch out for," as well as how to become the kind of partner your sweetie feels lucky to love. We'll even practice skills that will allow you to connect consciously and with confidence so that you can take the kinds of risks that create intimacy (and, when necessary, gracefully move on without getting stuck).
This course is designed for lesbians and other queer-identified women who are:
