“In order to change, people need to become aware of their sensations and the way that their bodies interact with the world around them. Physical self-awareness is the first step in releasing the tyranny of the past.” - Bessel A. van der Kolk, The Body Keeps the Score: Brain, Mind, and Body in the Healing of Trauma |
About this workshop
Distressed, depressed, anxious?
Unfocused, unhappy, unmotivated?
Talk therapy not enough?
Brain science reveals that thoughtful and
organized movement practices reintegrate
disregulated brain structures ---- the ways our brains operate in response to trauma or chronic stress --- to provide mental and emotional resilience.
When you move with intention, you get relief from physical, mental, and emotional pain. When you integrate attention to your emotional interior with attention to your body, you can release long held patterns of emotional and physical restriction, constriction, and defensive over-protection.
In this workshop, you will learn to "refine your spine" through skillfully designed movement patterns and to integrate these with Emotional Freedom Technique and other approaches to emotional healing, stability and resilience. You'll learn body-based practices designed to release constriction and support resilience in a comfortable and aesthetically peaceful environment with a community of others, and you'll retain what you learn so you can use again anywhere in your world. You'll come away with less anger, less fear, less pain, more optimism and techniques to improve your emotional and physical flexibility.

About Kathleen ConklinIn the late 1990’s, Kathleen Conklin transitioned from a career in law – intending to provide health law advocacy, to teaching from what was then called the Pilates Method of Physical and Mental Conditioning – and actually providing health advocacy. Twenty years of teaching full-time began with pilates education through the teacher training program of The Pilates Studio of the Midwest in Chicago and The Pilates Center in Boulder, CO. Several intensives with Michael Miller Pilates and pilates-elder Mary Bowen kept the technique intellectual and fascinating. Studies continued with Madeline Black, Michele Larsson, and Virginia Nicholas. Kathleen’s teaching, 33,000 hours and counting, is enhanced with techniques from Feldenkreis Method, Alexander Technique, Eric Franklin Method, NVI (neurovascular integration), and profound experiences with the Anatomy in Clay program in Colorado and Dissection Anatomy at the UW, Madison. Kathleen is author of “WEE SMALL STRETCH BOOK" and creator of the accompanying DVD, “Breathe. Stretch. Move.” She designs and leads body conscious retreats, workshops, and trainings worldwide, and has become a masterful guide to students as they find emotional empowerment through the transformative work of rational somatic practices.
